I
saw a pine body, and plates made of old vinyl records, on a known
marketplace website and the pictures were reasonable. After that, the
buying platform sent me a message saying there were only 2 left, so I
bought one. I was pretty deceived when it got home. Thank God, the neck
joint wasn't that bad; the size was good and it was straight, although
the whole body is slimmer than regular Telecasters. The holes for the
pots were a mess, the back cavity too, the outside cut was pretty rough, and the list goes on. The thing is, sending it back to the US
would cost also as much as the body and shipping itself. So I gave the
seller neutral feedback and decided to see what could I do from it.
At first, I was tempted to get a cheaper neck, there are Boston branded necks that seem pretty nice for the price. But once the body finished, I have decided to used one of the usual necks: 21 fret, truss rod at heel, medium C profile.
Once the whole set was relic'd, I knew it was a winner. The old Broadcaster hillbilly/raunchy look would surely please someone; hell I love it myself!! You surely know the first prototype models form Fender; clearly the body was inspired on those. Regular hardware, Allparts's vintage machine heads, Göldo 250k A and B pots, Thomann neck plate. The knobs however are different. I had already used them in the past on another project I've done. I think it matches the look, there's something "cowboy-ish" about this whole thing :)
Speaking of cowboys, you may as well call it "The Lone Ranger", because I won't buy another one of these bodies again; too risky!
